An ancestor- profession, painter- moved from Strood Kent to Portsmouth Hampshire before his marriage in 1812. He spent the rest of his life in Hamphire. I would like to know what was happening at that time in Kent, particularly the Strood, Rochester area that would make someone descide to move away from a place that their family had lived for generations. Plus what sort of things were happening in Portsmouth that would make someone consider moving there.
A lot of this information can be hard to find when trying to get answers from Australia with no idea of the local area.

This was the middle to end of the Napoleonic Wars. I know of nothing particular that was happening in Strood Kent at that time. I wonder if your ancestor had any connections with the navy, however? Portsmouth was (and still is) the UK's busiest naval base. You say he was a painter - do you mean a fine arts painter or a painter and decorator? If the former, I wonder if he went to make paintings of the ships - perhaps with a view to sale to a patriotic populace? If the other kind, perhaps actually to work on the ships. Was there any chance that he served in the navy? It would be possible that he was press ganged and forcibly moved. Do you know where his wife's family came from. Was there a possibility that he moved to be near them? Generally, I would say that Portsmouth would have been, at the time, the much busier place and the simple answer may well be just that your ancestor went off 'to make his fortune'

would not sound reliable :( because this got here on all of unexpected although i'd say there is wish she is purely ill and the vet can help her get well. in many situations at the same time as a dogs is going with the help of the demise procedure through previous age, that is a steady decline. This got here on the former day so very unexpected. So satisfied to take heed to you'd be taking her to the vet at present. suited element to do. wish she recovers. imagine effective yet practice for the worst.
