I wouldn't go over two deep, five deep is total foolishness and ridiculous, yes I've heard of it but not very often. What worries me is you saying the old shingles "keep blowing" off. Better make sure they're anchored good.

You can reshingle a roof-like mentioned above no more than two layers-but make sure you use 1 1/2" roofing nails to make sure that you are nailing thru the old shingles and into the plywood.

Folks do it all the time. My brother's been building houses for years, he suggests not going more than 2 layers deep, after the 2nd application of shingles need replacing, it's time to strip the roof and take a look at the plywood.

No more than two layers. The structure of your homes roof is engineered to support a certain amount of weight. Adding more than two layers of shingles will put a significant strain on the roof support system.

Yes, rule of thumb is never more than 2 layers. so know going into it that in 30 yrs or when this new set wears out, you'll have to take off all the old and replace from the very bare wood of the roof.

you need to remove the first layer of shingles, the added weight is too much on your house, and put a new roof on with nails or screws rather than staples

In most places you can add another layer over 1 other one. Buy some roofing nails --not staples. Have fun------.
