Sure! In Canada, we have a black Governor General AND she's a woman! She's excellent at her job and very well respected.

The color of the president doesn't matter on any of those aspects. However if what you mean is we need more publicity on black people in politics than yeah I'd agree with you. Or positive black role models.
Have in the media like T.V. shows with black people that aren't sitcoms or comedy's. Shows that have a positive black people that are the main characters in a thought provoking show. I'm sure it happens but, not that often.
You don't need a black president to stop racism or help other countries. We can do that as people. It is a democracy? Maybe if we didn't have tax limits we'd have more money. Maybe if we didn't use out sourcing labor other countries would benefit more.
Would a black president be more sympathetic to his own race probably about as much a non-black president would be toward the black race. It all depends on the individual. There are plenty of occurrences in history where a white president put his life in danger to help the black community.
We shouldn't have to wait for a specific color of president to have harmony with that culture. Or for that culture to progress. To insist a black president would solve all these things would be bias and racist.
If what you mean is, "Is it possible for this country to have a black president?". I'd say yes. It is possible. I do believe that there would be riots but, after people would just accept it like the civil rights movement. It can't be just one guy to make any change in our society. It may start with just one but, people have to work together no matter what race they are.

Why should the color of a person's skin be a factor in their abilities to be President of the U.S. or leader of ANYTHING for that matter?
I know alot of you out there are against the Bush Administration, but if you try and stay objective about things, consider this: I think Condaleeza Rice would make a great President. She is a natural leader, she is respected around the world and at home by any who seriously listen. Not everyone may agree with her, but they DO respect her. She will be the first woman President of the U.S. and the first Black President. That should satisfy those of you who are so hung up on petty things such as gender and race. What you SHOULD be concerned with is the individual's respectability factor.
I personally think Condaleeza Rice should be our NEXT President, but the Republicans would be foolish to put her up in 2008 because of the hatred of George W. Bush. The real shame here is that Americans are going to vote for a Democrat in 2008 NOT because that Democrat is more qualified than a Republican, but simply because they hate George Bush so much. IMO Jesus Christ could run on the Republican ticket in '08 and not win! That's how far America has fallen.
So, America, stop looking at the color of a person's skin or their gender. We need the most qualified people in power regardless of the rest.
Thank you and Good night! I'm off my soapbox now. I feel better.

Hope y'all don't get too offended, but wouldn't it be better to stick to the idea of a smart president instead? Would having a black "George W Bush" make you happy throwing an attack on a European country for them being WHITE. I know this is a bit rough, but if you people start voting for president being just white or black or yellow etc, then it's just about time to give up presidency at all. What you need is a picture of a leader coloured the way you like. Would that meet your demands and, of course, solve all problems of minorities in the world?
Oh, and a counter question - How's that related to third-world countries anyway?

Maybe a black 'woman'? So do you think Jesse Jackson or AL Sharpton would be good choices? Race shouldn't matter. The ability to perform in the office should be the only criteria. i would have voted for Colin Powell, but wont for Barak. The world will never be rid of discrimination and prejudice. we can only try to eliminate them in the small sphere each of us touches. Education not ignorance is the key

do you think just the fact that he was black would make him better at being president? all the answers doesnt not point out that you think just because he was black he would be more equal personally until the black community cleans up their act they are in fact the worst type for president chosen by just skin color. and besides if we did have a black president and he was worse than anyother president we ever had would you admit that he was the worst or would the people do the typical "he's not so bad" because we dont want to upset the black man?

Whats the difference what color the person is. What would you say to a question, Don't you think its time for the US to have another White President? You'd yell racism, and thats what this is as well.
White, Black, green, purple, yellow, whatever. Next president should be someone who will do good for the country and thats what should be focused on, not the color of their skin.

i think it's time the u.s. had a truly committed human being for a president; and it's past time we had a woman in place, particularly given 52 % of the population are female!
i think it is defeating to argue for black or white . i think it's time to stop noticing colour and the only way that will happen is if we make a conscious decision to do so so that we don't perpetuate in the next generations the notion that one may be superior to another.
the world would become a much better place if folk were colour blind as opposed to colour conscious

Only if he was fit to be president. It would have to be an intelligent and level-headed guy, not some random idiot/pervert like Clarence Thomas or Al Sharpton.
And even if he was a fit candidate, wouldn't that be kind of risky, you know, the possibility of a reactionary asassination?

This is a rather interesting time in American history.
Of the two people who are considered most likely to become the next president, one is black (Obama) and the other is a woman (Hillary).

This question is racist I cant hardly believe you were allowed to ask it. You should never elect someone based on their race or color. Instead it should be based on their knowledge and ability of a leader. It shouldnt matter if we never elect a black president or if we never elect a women. Or a Jew, mexican, native, or Indian. It should all depend on their ability as a leader.
