The hissing begins when I turn the car off. Also, every once in a while it takes 2 or three attempts to start it, but not that often. It always starts after the second or third attempt. Is it related to the noise? It is a 2001 Toyota Camry that I bought new. It has 103,000 miles on it. Does any one have any ideas on what is causing this? Thanks.

If it's coolant, look for an area under the hood that is brown. Or a tan color on plastic parts or hoses. That will help you localize it. That's about all I can offer with this little amount of information. Could be anything. Pop the hood and do a good visual inspection and try to listen to this noise and find out where it's coming from and maybe you could give more information that I can use to help you find out what's going on. Good luck.

Hissing Noise From Car

It's probably low on coolant. The hissing noise is steam escaping.
The A/C will make a hissing noise as the freon equalizes in pressure.
A vacuum leak would only be heard while the engine is running.
Hope this helps.

that is exceedingly atypical for a motorcar to have the indications you defined because the end results of an basic brake job until eventually the mechanic who did the job did not recognize what he change into doing. the 5 hundred mile suggestion is so as that the pads will seat outstanding. If the brake job change into finished top, there might want to no longer be any atypical noise popping out of the brakes. BTW, were the rotors replaced? If no longer were the former ones nonetheless interior of decrease (thickness)?

It sounds possible that you may have a leak in your inlet manifold hoses. Failier to start could be related to noise if leak is in advanced air line. Having said that, could be a simple thing like air condition on (A/C button) or air filter housing is not shut properly. if in doubt see a MTA accredited Mechanic. Let me know you re results.

sounds like you have a vaccum leak and yes it may be related to the starting problem. Take it to a shop and have a smoke test done. They have a machine which puts smoke into your system to find leaks. or try to figure out where the hissing comesfrom you may be able to see a vaccum line off.

Probably a vacuum leak, maybe from the power brake booster.
If it sounds like it's coming from the center of the dash, maybe the climate controls, tho I don't know if this car uses vacuum for the controls.

SNAKE!!!!!

It sounds like a coolant leak. Look for water leaking under the hood or under the car. Also, A/C units do this sometimes. Have you been running A/C or Defrost?
