Tool is a fantastic band. Since 1991 they've stayed true to their sound and it's held up ever since.
Their live shows are a sight to behold and always remind me why live music is better than recorded.
They're not the most "fan friendly" band in the world and are known for their reclusiveness (I doubt most of their fans could pick them out from a lineup) but that's not why you listen to a band, is it? Plus the lack of reliable information about them makes them that much more interesting.
They're all talented musicians and artists in their own right but they work together like a well oiled machine. And if you can find a male singer with a more emotive voice than Maynard, I'll buy you a taco.

yes they have reached many kinds of people, i for one only listen to rap, hip hop and others but then one day my friend introduced me to TOOL and i was hooked like after 2 days and thats the truth

well you either love them or hate them.
Personally i like them. I think its because i am a musician and can appreciate good musicianship and writing. So i'd say just try it and see if you like it.(just remember you have to listen to a whole album and really get into it. if you don't like it after that just try one of the other albums(because every album is like 8 years apart they sound pretty different)
