My Sister's Boyfriend's Son, don't want to spend a huge amount. Last year I bought him loads and loads of chocolate, (only just met him that year), but I don't want to do the same 'cop-out' this year!

How about Lego blocks or a remote controlled car?

If he likes sports, how about a baseball or a foot ball? (My older brothers still ask for Nerf footballs!)

A set of Matchbox cars (5 in a pack), a snap together model, an inexpensive CD player, or maybe an art set.

I hesitate to suggest money or gift cards, though. Most kids his age want a present to open and play with, and get disappointed with cash/gift cards.

Ask your sister what he'll like. Maybe there's something on his Christmas list you can buy.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

What is he into, Mine is 10, loves computer games but there are so many good free downloads out there that another would be pointless.
Scalextric, if he has one which works, get him a car. £7 to £ 50
Railway likewise a wagon, make sure of gauge and scale. £ 5 to £ 35
Airfix kit, Plane, Tank etc get one with glue and paint included. £4 up
Little Meccano kits make one model keep them quiet for 10 minutes until the frustration creep in and they scream the place down,
My 10 year old cannot read well enough to read for pleasure yet, so avoid books,
Has he got his own Video player, if he aint a secondhand combi unit, TV + Video would be the best present ever, if not dont buy him video tapes, or if he aint got a DVD player of his own dont get DVDs, too much friction, I got mine a Video + telly for grandmas spare room to keep mine occupied when we visit mother in law.
As a rule of thumb apart form Girls I guess anything your boyfriend would enjoy playing with should appeal to a 10 year old.

Last year you hardly knew the boy so buying chocolate was totally appropriate. You shouldn't feel like you have to buy for everyone you know either. No gift is a cop-out.

My son is 10. Get him something that will not just be a 10 minute toy (which gets played with and broken and binned within 10 minutes). Something that he will keep for a long time would be best, e.g. Fun board game he can play with his parents or friends.
Maybe even a Chess set?

How about a Magnetix set or some Tech Decks (finger skateboards)? My son's 11 and that's what the kids his age are asking for this year. We also got my son a huge robotic spider from Walmart. It's really cool...my husband now wants one. :-)

Try and find out what he likes, that'll make things a lot easier and make it less likely that you get him something he hates. Books, DVDs and games are good, or I think you can get activity sets in Argos. I'd flick through the Argos catalogue if I were you.

Go to Radio Shack and get him one of those huge radio controlled motor vehicles.

TOYS! Every kid loves toys! See where his parents shop, maybe a giftcard... They're proud in getting rung up and paying by themselves.

we have a ten year old nephew... my advice is find out what sports or activities he likes (his fav team or hobbies)...

get creative and get him something he can keep and come back to when he's bored with other things...

Maybe construction toys or creative computer software...
