There are attempts to exempt Nursing and Care Homes from this law, which seems stupid, especially as the staff ought to know better, being in the health sector, and dealing with ill residents, many of them suffering old age related chest ailments.
However, smokers, you know the ones, "smoking is not dangerous, nah, it won't arm you, honest", will smoke wherever they want, dull, thin brained numb skulls that they are.

I gave up 3 weeks ago & am planning to keep it up. I think the smoking ban is a good thing, not because I no longer smoke, I would be saying this even if I still smoked because like your situation it's unfair on non smokers. People who smoke choose to off their own backs & don't consider other peoples health, I certainly didn't when I smoked. I think you should say something to your collegues, at least ask them to go outside for their ciggie breaks which come July will be legal. If they ignore you I don't think you'll have any choice but to report them. I'm reading this back & it sounds so hypocritical but if it's really a problem for you you have no other option other than to put up with it!

Coming from Scotland we have had the rule here for a while, I am a smoker and can see why non smokers would be happy with the rule in restaurants, but what the high and mighty don`t seem to realise is that it is peoples livelyhood that they are deciding on. Are we so stupid that we can`t choose whether we go to a smoking establishment or to a non smoking establishment Cafe Bar Restaurant ? I have friends who came here from Russia years ago to get away from dictatorships and now they are thinking of going back where they say " We can decide what we do and when we do it " So much for our free country........

I am a smoker but I respect those that don't, My wife is a nurse and doesn't smoke/I feel that if someone works in a place where they have a no smoking policy it should be inforced. My wife works in a nursing home & The residents there should not be exsposed to smoke/myself (even though I am a smoker) believe that if people want to smoke /take it outside

The law will change next year and will ban smoking in enclosed places where people work. Obviously that's not the exact wording but you get the jist.
That's why smoking in pubs etc.. will outlawed, because people work there, so your residential home will also be subject to the ban.

I quit last year for two months but started back when my final exams came around (a like excuse, eh?) and during the time I quit I discovered exactly how nasty they are. My state (GA) has a no smoking thing in any area that a minor has access to. I'm not sure about how one would report this. I do not know how it will be inforced, but if you are around sick patients, there comfort and health should come first.

So you all are caretakers? What sort of lowlife scumbags are these for being so inconsiderate!
I would suggest talking to them yourself, directly, letting them know why you think it's not appropriate in the building. Be sure to let them know how frustrated you can be with your bosses, but you're concerned for the health of those you're helping and yourself as well. If they brush you off-- and you might be surprised that they really listen to you!-- then you should take it up with management.
Best of luck to you!

People who drive around in gas guzzling cars that spew up toxic smoke don't care for my health either but no one is going to ban that are they?

Hopefully would be covered - that is shocking that they can be so selfish. I work with people who all go for smoke breaks and stink when they get back. Yuk
