I've been working the same job for the last 12 years and I'm currently looking for another job.
I'd really like to work for a charity, any idea how easy it is to find paid charity work in the UK? I'd be looking for something in Cardiff for around £15,000 a year and I don't really mind what type of work it is. Any suggestions?

Erm no obviously I wasn't expecting to earn £15,000 in a charity shop (although branch manager do earn around that much).

I was thinking administrative work or maybe something involved with helping asylum seekers.

I'm guessing you don't want to work in a Charity Shop... right? Maybe be involved with admin or organisation in some way?

I would suggest, firstly, that you look online for registerd charies, and locate any that are based in or around Cardiff, unless you are willing to move house. Then, to contact those charities and tell them you would like to work for a charity, as a career, and ascertain from them as to what openings they have, and what their annual pay is. I think Binary might be right in a sense, but I think the organisational side, and the getting "involved" might be a little more rewarding than working in a shop, and I feel this is more what you're looking for.

Good luck with your search. I hope this helps. :-)

Ok... I'm back, after a bit of a look around. You might try www.nspcc.org.uk who do have a branch in Wales. Scroll to the bottom left of the page and click on 'View the latest employment opportunities at the NSPCC. Also this one lists jobs in Cardiff - www.1job.co.uk/group-jobs.php/11530/Cardiff%20City/14/Health,%20Care%20and%20Community%20Jobs

I hope they help. Good luck. :-)

To earn that much in charity work, you'd need to be in high management, or have very good administrative skills, proven. Many people in charity work, just get a basic living allowance, I think.

Buy a copy of next Wednesday's Guardian or have a look at
http://society.guardian.co.uk/careers/

For example, MIND are looking for a resource centre manager in the Vale of Glamorgan (that's Cardiff isnt it?) for £20895 - £22293pa. But have a look at other categories such as Housing and Environment as there may be other jobs there.

good luck

Low pay, rotten working conditions, bad bosses and no Union. Worse than the private sector.
