My boyfriend and I are moving out of state. I am nervous as we have suffered a personal loss. Many family members are urging us to stay and are not supportive of the choice to follow through with our plans. We are not running away from our loss but they see it as such and I feel very bad. Any thoughts?

Chances are those family members are also dealing with the loss and see you leaving as another one that they aren't ready to deal with. If you had already made plans to go then continue with your plans if you just decided than maybe wait 3 months and go from there. You are an adult and have the right to live your life you just have to let them all know that you love them and will visit often but this is what you need to do for you and your future.

You're not running away? Are you sure of this yourself?

Just checking....
cuz you act like you're trying to justify it on here.

Either let them go and move on and away, or try to see what they're trying to say to you. Either they're still torn by the loss and if you guys leave they'll feel like they've lost the whole family, or they know something you don't realize.
Worth looking into... or not. Depends on what you feel inside.

Explain to them that you're not running away and thank them for their concerns, but that you and your partner have made a decision, one that you plan on following through with. Assure them that you'll keep in touch via talking and/or visiting.

If this is what you and your boyfriend need to do you should do it. It is your life not your families and I think a new fresh start is a good thing.

sometimes just what you need is a fresh start where no one knows about you and your loss. People all grieve differently.
