Where is the best place to live for someone new to Singapore? I am very hardworking and I have many skills that would be valuable to the economy I am sure. Only speak English so that might hold me back some.

It would be better if you could find a job here before coming down. Even though statistics that are publicised shows that employment rate is picking up, there's high unemployment here. Furthermore, like what u mentioned, speaking only english is not sufficient here. You need to speak Chinese. Although they don't explicitly say it, it would become obvious once u go for interviews.

In US, even a single mom can work as waitress and support her family on tips. In Singapore, unfortunates work 12 hrs a day with 2 days off every 1 month. They get less than US$1,000 for their work. The unemployable learn to snatch empty soft drink cans or collect cardboards on the streets. Expats here live in their own dream world. You find their wives shopping for fake chinese antiques, or crowding the ferries at weekend getting out of Singapore. Their kids attend international schools where Singaporean children are not allowed to enrol. Why would anyone from your country want to take part in this, just like Japanese during apartheid South Africa who are treated as 'whites' and enjoy 'whites' status.

Why do you want to move to Singapore? Singapore is a boring place and life is stressful here.. really. I am a Singaporean, so I know.

I should mention that the weather can get very hot and humid over here and there are no seasons too.
