Yes, they certainly are, only a tiny minority of both parties have yet to be corrupted, and these people will continue to be sidelined.
Money is the temptation, and the problem. The two main parties are funded by big business, and this needs to be stopped.
It should be a criminal act to take money from anyone while campaigning to be in office, while in office, and especially after being in office. Any political candidate who can show they have a reasonable amount of support from the community should be funded by the tax payer, not with millions of dollars, but with enough money to enable them to get their policies out to the public.
Whilst in office, working for the public, they should be paid enough to live comfortably, and perform their duties, nothing more. The candidates should be there because they want to benefit the community they serve, not for profit.
After their term in office they should be paid a reasonable pension, and be banned from taking corporate jobs.
All their finances before during, and after serving should be published.
In this way the politicians cannot rely on millions of dollars to bombard the public with TV. advertising, they would have to hit the street, and explain to the public directly, what they would do, if they were elected. In fact this should be in writing.
The electoral college should be abolished, and the boundaries for electoral areas should be set by an transparent, independent body.
Electronic voting machines, and chad making machines should be illegal.
What do you recommend?

Dishonesty and Corruptness is a part of politics that cannot be changed until we change the current system. I think that we need a pres and gov that knows what the meaning of working for everything you got means. taxes are what brings the country out of debt, we need to keep the current tax system, but change everything else. Personally I think that if politicians would make as much money as the average joe, they would start to care about the american citizen...

I think so, I belive the best way to change it is pass very harsh laws for anyone that committed coruption in the American goverment.

Laws would be.
Having your house seized and money taken(even if you have a family) Think twice before you do it. After which you will serve life in prison.

The corruption exists soley in mankind and his quest for power. There is no form of government or politcal power that will be completely without corruption or dishonesty in the history of man, period. With that thought, I will have to simply put my faith in a system that at least gives people the choice, i.e. democracy.

Yes is the short answer.

The problem as you probably understand is the fight for votes. The end result of this is that the parties actually have no policy as they try to tailor their message to appeal to everyone. In the end they appeal to no-one.
I would vote for a party that had a policy and stuck to it.

A vote for labour or conservative is meaningless. It is just asking for 'averageness' if there is such a word.

Yes.

The best way to fix the problem is voting outside of the parties. Give the parties the message we don't want to be run by any party.

Yes...
The best way to fix this... cut their pay by 60% and make donations punishable by death.... then the only people who want to be polititions will be people who care only about the good of the people and not the money the can make..... hooray for great ideas.
