I'm looking for a good novel. I use to read Ken Follet, Tom Clancy, Wilbur Smith, Stephen King novels, and I would like to know other authors or books that contain stories of action, suspence and pathos.
I have also read all the Dan Brown books but I have always been disappointed...

Blindness by Jose Saramago
About an epidemic of blindness that plague the whole city. How people behave, how do they outwit others in order to get food, shelter, even sex and power..... It's eerie, but so realistic at the same time. You will find the writing better than Stephen King et al since Saramago is a Noble prize winner.

First one that comes to mind--A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Notorious for the film Kubrick made in the 70's (which actually waters down the story a bit!) Lots of gory, crazy stuff--but with a very good "moral" to the story.
