Do i need to ask for official permission to display song lyrics on my personal website...if i do, whom do i ask exactly? Should i write to the band or..the bands manager...the company the band works for...? And do i need to sign a contract or anything like that?

And if i were to copyright my own website...how would i go about doing that?

I´d really appreciate any info you could give me on this. Thank you! =D

Yes, you should obtain permission before publishing any copyrighted work.

The permission should come from the copyright holder. This could be the band, the person that wrote the song, or a music company.

You can search for this information at:

Sometimes it's as simple a sending a letter to the copyright holder; sometimes there is a charge.

Good luck!

I do not believe that you need permission to display song lyrics as long as you credit the artist/writer of the song and as long as you are not profiting from your site. If you are profiting then you would have to get permission and pay royalties.
You can get information about patenting your website from the U.S. patent office.
