Live? I guess that depends on your definition of "live". Of course the cells of its body are still alive for a few minutes after the head is severed. The same would be true of a decapitated human. So you could say that a body composed of living cells must therefore be "alive", since the whole reflects the characteristics of the constituent parts. Also, the chicken may actually move somewhat due to random nerve impulses, again not unlike other species. A snake or a fish will continue to move a bit after the head is severed. But while the body may be considered "alive" in one sense - and the head too for that matter - death is certainly imminent as the cells quickly succumb to lack of oxygen.

Yes, it is true. There was a chicken that lived for about two years without a head. This can only happen, however, if enough of the brain stem is still attatched for the chicken's basic functionality to continue as close to normal as possible. This is exactly what happened in the case above.

No, even a chicken cannot live without a head (while some people, especially politicians can live without a brain and without a heart).

But when someone chops off a chicken's head, it can "live" for a minute or so, running around the yard and dying finally.

A chicken will flop around for just a few seconds after its head has been cut off. I dont call that living!

Nope it aint true... its just that once the head is cut off, the chicken just runs wild here and there for a while and then it dies...

A chicken can live for a few moments without its head, but its body will become dead almost immediately upon severing the head.

yes..
but the chicken will only live untill it bleeds to death..
the heart is still pumping blood so technically it is alive..

I have seen it many times ( we had chickens when I was a child )
They do not live long, but can still fly and it can be a gruesome, scary sight...

No. They flop around for a minute or so after the head is chopped off, but they are not alive. It is just the muscles jumping around.

Yeah, until it bleed to death.
That's why the French had so much fun at the guillotine during the french revolution. the chopped of heads still maintained so sort of motor function until the brain died.
