Yes, We will do you know this quarter we have achieved 9.1% economic growth. I know we are lagging behind in many sections. But i certainly feel the we will be a developed country by 2020. Look at the boom around in India look at the amount of investment. We will reach there.
India is marching ahead. Who doesn't have obstacles, so what I want to die seeing INDIA the No.-1 country in this universe.

surely...india will not see the expected growth in 2020...the main thing we were lagging is that "in creating the long term goal" ...but there is no long term planning for any thing...even in all department... i am not saying that india is not developing..but this growth is not at all enough for the big country like India.. The major step they have to do now is concentrate in the low level peoples...by increasing their economy is the only solution to improve the economy of our country.. The politicians are dont want the people to think about our country...The things whatever doing by them is an eye wash for the people...All political parties are concentrating only on their five years rulement...not on the 5year plan of our country...from these how india can be develop by 2020...time has to answer this question...

There's no need to wait till 2020 as stated by our Indian president. It can develop in a couple of year or so if the citizens care for their country ,hardworking and willing to accept risks and failures. Take the example of Japan. It has beaten the superpower economy 40 yrs ago.

You must not be serious!!!!
As long as we have this political class I am quite pessimistic about the idea you have floated I would love to see this country flourishing but my gut feeling says that 2020 is too close for that.
We who use computers and who move in cars have pizzas to eat are far from the reality, to see the reality we need to move to villages, ghettos, slums and interiors of the country.
We have people and that too in plenty who still sleep hungry who still grow families like rats, there are people(in plenty) who don't even know what is a condom or what is contraception.....My dear friend we need to educate this country and than only we can think of something, I am pretty sure that this political class will never allow that to happen, the moment we are educated these people will have to pack their bags.
When we talk of growth rate, fine it is 9 or 10 or whatever but does it make any difference to a rickshaw puller? does it make a difference to a majority of poor people who are deprived of everything?NO it does not make a difference to majority of people even if this growth rate goes to 15 or 20.
I would be the happiest person if I am proved wrong because that way my country can silent a few morons like myself...Thanks

Its so hard to predict out so far, but I am going to say yes.

India is an ecomomic power in the making.

I did a project for University (in NZ) on getting tourists to visit NZ from India. I found out that 6 million Indian's travelled overseas in 2004.

In 2020, it was estimated to be 200million.

You think that growth is due to people in the future suddenly decising all at once to travel overseas? Of course not

Do you think its because of economic growth, and the hundreds of millions of people moving into the middle class, and being able to afford to do so? you bet.

Yes.

It will be more developed as it is today. Whether it will reach let's say the development level of England or France it is questionable. It will take decades over decades to educate millions and to provide a Western like standard of living to the whole population.

I don't think so as yet we are facing the problems of poverty and over population. Also many good educated citizens of India are going to foreign countries for better job facilities.

I think so. Bill Gates wants his country well on it's way to being his computer central so when his children are ready to take over it will be a smooth transition.
