Social cultures are assigned to people for the clothes they wear, or the music that they prefer, and not be the people they are. We are supposed to be advancing as a society, instead we are judging eachother over material things. Are we so narrow minded as a social group that we cannot advance and sort differences because of someones life choices?

Rephrasing your question: Why are people not objective?

If you read newspapers, do you read every word in it or sometimes you scan through the titles to see whether some irrelevant information is not of any use for you?

That's what most people do, their brains are naturally taking shortcuts that have proven to work in past experiences. So they read a word let's say "britney", in a title and they know the article is about celebrity stuff and they skip it.

The same thing goes in life, people's innate ability to learn is based on generalization and sometimes it's very hard to restart thinking objectively about things we thought about before.

People are quick to apply labels because we feel more comfortable when we label something.

We fear the unknown and like to think we know everything so that we are prepared for anything.

This is simply the way things are and it's not "ideal" but it's the world we live in.
