It was John Lennon. Paul??? man you need to clean your ears out

PEOPLE--the question was who SANG it. JOHN LENNON SANG LEAD VOCALS AND WROTE THE SONG PRIMARILY. QUIT SAYING PAUL. All Beatles songs are credited as Lennon/McCartney but they each had their own songs in reality.

Although writing credits say it was John Lennon & Paul McCartney, John wrote and sang it. As people said above, Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds was inspired by Julian 'cause Jules had gone to school and came home with a painting, and John asked what it was and, of course, Jules said,"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Also there were rumors that it was about LSD; L: Lucy, S: Sky, D: Diamonds, which comes to: LSD, but I beleive Jules inspired it. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is track 3/13 on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I hope this helped!

John Lennon sang this song on the Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band album in 1967. He wrote the majority of the song and Paul McCartney added some material.

John. He wrote it. He tended to sing the more "way out" ones, like I am the Walrus and Strawberry Fields - well, he wrote them too. Personally, I think it sounds like John anyway - not Paul. It was supposedly inspired by John's son Julian coming home from school with a drawing which he said was called Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It is NOT therefore an allusion to the drug LSD - well believe that if you like; it's a free country

"Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" is a song written mostly by John Lennon (with some material by Paul McCartney) in 1967 and recorded by The Beatles for their album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The lyrics of the song feature image-laden verses which present an overtly psychedelic travelogue describing a boat trip through a fantastical land of "cellophane flowers", "newspaper taxis" and "marshmallow pies" alternating with chorus sections which simply repeat the song's title. This, as well as the initials of the title (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds) and the dreamlike-quality of the melody, has led many to speculate that the song was written in reference to LSD, a drug which Lennon in particular had been using heavily at the time. The Beatles have repeatedly denied that this is the case, however, according to the Beatles, one day in 1966 Lennon's son Julian came home from nursery school with a drawing he said was of his classmate, a girl named Lucy. Showing the artwork to his father, young Julian described the picture as "Lucy - in the sky with diamonds."

Julian later said, "I don't know why I called it that or why it stood out from all my other drawings but I obviously had an affection for Lucy at that age. I used to show dad everything I'd built or painted at school and this one sparked off the idea for a song about Lucy in the sky with diamonds."

Lucy - in the sky with diamonds by a young Julian LennonHis son's artwork appears to have inspired Lennon to draw heavily on his own childhood affection for Lewis Carroll's Wool and Water chapter from Through the Looking-Glass. At least one lyric was influenced by both Carroll and skits on a popular British comedy programme (the Goon Show) making references to plasticine ties, which showed up in the song as Plasticine porters with looking glass ties. Carroll's work has also been cited as having influenced Lennon's two books, In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works.

john took the lead, paul sang backing vocals. the title was supposedly taken from a picture julian lennon drew at nursery, but given the initials, i think this is spurious.

John lennon. He claims his son (Julian ) came home with a drawing he made and it had a lady in the sky with many stars and clouds etc., he asked, "What do you call this, son?" and Julian said, "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds."
John always scoffed at the LSD reference.
