I recently got an Xbox 360 and was interested in getting Gears of War but I've read a lot of stories on the internet about this game "breaking" peoples Xboxes, presumably through overtaxing and overheating the system. Does anyone know of any instances where this has happened and if so then why..?

I own the game. My girlfriends and I are on a Halo team together but last weekend we decided to try out Gears of War to get use of all the awesome graphics the XBox is capable of. It took us just a few minutes to get the hang of the movement and shooting. The graphics are great. You can co-op up to 8 players which we did. My machine had four players on it for 5 hours. So I hope that helps you. My machine only frooze up on me once during Halo 2. Man that was a bummer too because we lost our rank when I ducked out of that game. The developers for Gears of War are no dummies. I don't see them coding a game that would over work a system. Think about it. They have perameters the game can be made under that will play with the console. Not only would it be a HUGE waste of time to code a game that would "overwork" a system, but also a money loss to both Microsoft and the game developers.

My roommate checked it out from the Gamestop where he works, so we only had 4 days to play it as much as possible. The 360 was on just about the whole time we had the game (not necessarily playing the whole time--everyone needs sleep) and didn't lock up once. Hope this helps, enjoy an awesome game!
