I do not know. Perhaps because there are all kinds of people here. Some people are sticklers for spelling, and some are not. When you are IMing you are usually just chatting with friends. That is my guess anyway.

DUH! Do you think it might be because this is NOT IM?
If you IM someone, you are having a private chat usually with a friend and you both know your word shortcuts. Here, you are dealing with people who do NOT know your shortcuts. IM-spell is OK when used in IM. Using it here just shows your immaturity, laziness, and/or lack of education.

I don't see the big deal in the spelling. If I can understand what ppl are saying, then I don't care whether it's spelled right or not.

maybe here it is a little more thought into an answer and on Im you are quickly conversing like in speaking. No one complains about my misspellings when I talk to them either.

its the ppl that dont understand the computer lang. that get annoyed
but us ppl who are on IM alot && dont have time to spell out
every word ,, that do care
