If you have lots and lots of picture, music or video files on your computer, copy them onto discs and then delete the original files from your computer.
Also delete your cookies and old programs you no longer need, such as an old version of something you have upgraded/updated/replaced and than defragment your computer.
It should free up a LOT of space and make your computer run faster.
I just recently made 14 data discs of just music and 22 of pictures and another 9 of video. My memory was down to 5%... deleted all that stuff, defragmented, and am running smoothly now.

Unless you upgraded your operating system or are running programs with higher requirements than your computer was designed for, your computer shouldn't just slow down and request more memory than when you first had it.
Chances are your computer has been slowed by spyware, malware, bloatware, or all three. I recommend the programs Ad-aware and Spybot S&D to clean this stuff up all the time.
If you don't already have a current working antivirus program with the latest updates you might also want to look into either AVG, ClamWin, or Avast.
I included links to all the programs I mentioned in the source box for easy access and comparison.

Somebody set the virtual memory too low to save hard drive space. Reset it like these guys say, but choose "Let Windows manage my virtual memory, or pagefile.sys size"
And, more ram is always better than using virtual memory.

Go the properties of My Computer where you will find "Advanced" {Tab}, Where you will find setting of Virtual Memory. Click on Setting and go to Advance where you will find Virtual Memory, next to that you wil find Change. Click on it. Select Custom size and change Initial size to 1024 and max as 1512 and click set. Now your system Virtual Memory will be chaged... I hope now your system work a bit faster then the earlier...

Everyone's taking a guess here, but the problem is that we don't know what version of Windows you're running (98, ME, XP, etc) nor do we know anything about your PC.
When you ask questions like this, you have to provide as much detail as you can describing what you have. Truth is that error can be very misleading, especially in older versions of Windows. For example in Win98, it rarely had anything to do with RAM. Instead, it was usually caused by low hard drive space, poorly configured swap file, TOO MUCH RAM or a corrupt .DOT file in Microsoft Word. Adding more RAM is probably going to be a waste of money, especially if you're already over 256MB. In fact, having 512MB or more can cause problems including this error message. Again, I'm referring to older versions of Windows. Newer ones like XP need at least 512MB to run smooth and 1GB is the average these days. Windows 98, however, could not handle large amounts like that.
If I've lost you on any of the terminology, you can find definitions at:

Delete all of the temporary Internet files, history, etc. Delete any programs that you don't use through add and remove programs in the control panel. Then do a defrag.

Add more RAM. Don't try to run big programs or graphic software or so many application at the same time. Try to make more space in your C drive, where Windows is installed.
