Run water from a garden hose in the gutters to thaw them out. That water is at least 55 degrees, and there is no way it will freeze before it melts through the ice. Then clean out the gutters. They must be really blocked up to cause the roof to leak, because the rain has to pool up pretty good to get in. In other words, the gutter must be so full of ice and stuff that it's pooling the water behind it, forcing it up-hill.

You can also stick the garden hose up the drain-pipe to melt the ice in there. Start from the "bottom" and work your way up. Then melt the gutters and clean them. You can use some salt on the roof will no harm, too.

Well there's no sense in crying about it now, you'd better get yourself a ladder and some tools, why make some poor roofer do your dirty work due to laziness, unless your willing to pay.

Stat with you right foot like anyone Else and start up the ladder. The ice shouldn't be to solid, more like a slushy snow. Maybe it isn't as bad as you think and you can save some money, take care and good luck.
