Unless you are independently wealthy or can live on nothing, initially, you will probably be working for some company. So, you should make some connections while you are in school. There are a number of ways for you to do this, but perhaps the best is to get an internship. Often, if you do good work as an intern, the company will hire you or provide connections to another company that will take you on. Good luck.

As you reach the end of your course of study, the school will probably provide you with some resources to get started. Also, this is a huge cliche, but you have to network and make a lot of friends. Most likely, you'll end up in LA after school and look for Production Assistant work with a studio. You'll eventually work your way up to being a Director or a DP or an editor or whatever. The other route is to make your own independent films on digital video and hope someone notices you, but the odds will be against you. Good luck and have fun.

Those questions will answer themselves later. Once you are in college you will meet other students on the same path, not to mention counselors that will help you with setting up a plan for getting where you want to go. Don't underestimate the value of a good plan, but the time for that is later.
That said, there's even more reason not to worry about it. college is a time of exploration, and many (and I do mean MANY) students change what they decide to study along the way. I started college a music major and thought I'd spend my adult life in a symphony orchestra. I graduated a biologist.

the ideas will come to you over the next 4 or 5 years.....dont worry about it now. i dont have answers to you, and i think its great that youre looking into your options if you do go ahead and pursue a film degree. start talking to people...get everyones opinion/two cents you can (this is a great start). your ideas and plans may change....im about to graduate college, and it took me about 1/2 way through my college education to figure out my major and what i want to do, and now i feel great about my choices thus far. youll figure things out, and theres no reason why you shouldnt start looking into them now, so great work, and good luck.
