No smoking in bars-even though I don't smoke, I don't see why a bar is an inappropriate place to have a cigarette. It's not like it's a health club in the first place.

I live in Atlanta, GA. My state has a law on the books called "intersposal tort doctrine". It was originally drafted to protect marital harmony & adopted... 50 (?) years ago.

It takes away your individual constitutional rights. GA law sees a married couple as ONE legal entity; neither party may sue the other except for divorce.

This assumption of being one unit however, does NOT carry over in terms of PRIVACY laws. His banking, credit info, medical records, criminal history, is STILL very private. We are individuals when they see fit- and one unit- when they see fit.

So, the items I need to know to legally protect myself are sealed in his individual privacy. I found his fraudulant health insurance card and tried to get him removed from his ex-wifes policy but NO, I was told that is none of my business if my husband has insurance with an ex-wife & has a new wife & does not live with the ex-wife.

And bank secrecy is another one. If the IRS assumes married couples are one unit, sharing his income (legal or not) then aren't I going to face some suspicion if they ever uncover his white collar crimes?

Reporting it did nothing. I'm written off as seeking revenge. Now the law assumes that trying to clear my name is "revenge".

What happened to innocent until proven guilty? Why not verify some of the paper trail I revealed? Why not ask me for a signed statement? I'm not stupid. I know it's against the law to lie to the police!

I am denied equal access to the law based solely on my marital status. THAT should be a crime. It's prejudiced, biased, and reckless. I have no criminal history...only a marriage history.
