Are there any Black people in Amsterdam?? .. More importantly I was gonna attend the Cannibis Cup in November but Im reading all these comments and not getting good feedback as far as the weather is concerned during that time .. Has anyone ever been?! .. Is the weather not a big deal compared to the AWESOME time I would have at the Cannibis Cup?! .. Im thinking about going in March or July now .. Are those pretty good months? .. Im sure weather is okay but any special events going on during those months? .. And I was also reading something about tourist not being able to smoke in Amsterdam anymore. Is that true?! If so that really gonna screw up my trip!!

Of course there are Black people in Amsterdam. The Dutch are very welcoming and friendly people, don't worry about that, they will love having you in their country to visit. You can smoke, just in the restaurants, and perhaps on the sidewalk outside at the tables, but that's most likely it these days. Go, enjoy the Cannabis Cup festivities and have a blast!

Yes there are...mostly from suriname but also from the UK

Cannabis Cup IS way overrated. You pay to do what you can do on your own (go coffeeshop hopping and try the different strands) plus you have to pay for your weed. And yes the weather is cold and rainy beginning November-early march

Late March is ok...weather is a gamble but airline tix are still cheap. April 30 is Queens Day and if you can make it over then I highly recommend it. July is probably the best month weather wise but you face crowded everything w/ the influx of tourists and high travel prices.

Hi Diva,
I'm Dutch (and often amazed with the comments about my country here at YA).
To answer your questions:
- Yes, there are quite a lot of black people and all colours and mixtures in Amsterdam.
- Weather in November is lousy, just lots of wind and rain and it's cold. March is still cold, June can be good but sometimes rainy too. Long days in summer, daylight untill after 10pm.
- The Canabis Cup is a rip off for tourists, not very spectacular. Better find some friends to join you and visit the diverse coffee shops just out of the center of Amsterdam. Less tourists, more locals, cheaper and better "coffee".
- I read this about tourists not being able to smoke anymore, too! Don't know who came up with that....... in this country there is no such thing as a law for foreigners only. As long as the Dutch can smoke, everybody can smoke here.

Hey Diva,
You've been getting some bum information from people.
Amsterdam is one of the most cosmopolitan, fun and friendly cities I have ever been to. There are all nationalities and colours here co-existing pretty well together most of the time.
As with any city, there are dodgy areas to stay away from - but these are very obvious in Amsterdam - just stay where there are plenty of people around.
Smoking is still OK in the cafes at least (try Rick's Cafe), but it has always been frowned on in public. Despite what you may think, the Dutch are actually quite religious and conservative people.
The one thing that you're sort of right with is the weather. Typically in November it would be cool, overcast and damp. But not unpleasant. March is nice as spring has started and July can be quite hot and crowded sometimes. I wouldn't be put off just by the weather in November.
Come over - relax and enjoy.

Diva, There are plenty of blacks in amsterdam, largely from surinam or the antilles. I went one March and it was my least favorite (of about 8) visits. You won't see the lively city you'd see if you went in the summer. It's far north so there are very long days in the summer (i.e. 4:30 - 10:00 sun is shining) and short ones in the winter. Even in March the weather won't be as bad as say chicago (it probably will be in the high 30s/low 40s). July would be much better, all the street entertainers will be in leidseplein, niewendijk and kalverstraat will be nice and lively I would highly recommend that. And there is so much more there than pot, I'm sorry that and prostitutes is all americans seem to think one of the great cities of the world has to offer. I never smoked it once yet I was continuously drawn back. Trust me you'd be better off going for shwarmas, bamis, zoud harrings and the many other foods you can't get in your hometown. Plus you'll meet interesting people from all over the world.

Of course there are black people in Holland, especially in Amsterdam as it is one of the most cosmopolitan places in Europe. You won´t believe the amount of nationalities you will cross on the street.
Dutch people are friendly and very welcoming. Don´t believe other thing.
It is a beautiful country and there are lots of things to do and to see. The best months to go are from June-September as otherwise is rather windy and rainy.
Finally, of course you can smoke. You think they will stop you because you are a tourist?
Have fun and enjoy your visit you will never forget it.

There are tea houses and cafes to smoke at, all different mixes. But everything is a little more sterile feeling than you expect. Even with the girls in the windows. Seem like if anyting gets out of order police are there in a minute and settle it.
But the city also has great architecture and museums, so dont forget that aspect.

1) there are a few negroes in amsterdam
2) the high times cannabis cup (tm) is an overrated waste of time/money. the participating coffeeshops are wall-wall crowded and it's no longer a fun laid back time.
3) the weather will suck
4) go some other time when it's not crowded and send me the $200 you'll pay for a plastic "judges laminate" that doesn't get you ANYTHING... you do realize you still have to PAY for the samples you "judge".
