At the time, the soviets (Under Stalin) were just as bad as the Nazis, but eventually the Soviets mellowed a bit. Eventually, it would have been better under soviet domination because they seem more pragmatic than the Nazis. When Stalin died, his successors would have seen the need for more openness, less restrictions and persecution. Nazism seemed more idealogically rooted in hate and would still have been persecuting and killing "Undesirables" today if it was still around. Having said that, if the Soviets became moe dominant than they were, they may have been more bold to keep thier Stalinist ways even after he died.
I think that people in general prefer democracy because it gives them a better sense of freedom. Therefore, Nazism and Stalinism were not designed for longevity. They would have fizzled out in one way or another eventually.

I'd say the Soviets, without question.
Because if it had been Germany, I would be missing a lot of friends I have today.
They would have simply never been born.
You gotta remember, the Third Reich hated more that just the Jews.
Something to think about.

Neither, they were both pretty evil. Stalin killed as many as Hitler did. Also the respondant who said the Soviets mellowed was right, but that was only because of external pressure from the west. If there WAS no west they would have remained the same. Political ideology is a circle, if you go far enough right, and far enough left, you esentially get the same thing.

Both prospects are daunting Will have to vote for the Soviets. The third Reich would have killed all peoples who did not fullfill their concept of an Arian race ---free from imperfections ;along with anyone who questioned their motives. On the other hand the soviets would have done their best to kill as many Germans as possible along with anyone who did not tow the communist party line.

Bit of a tricky one - though on balance I would have to err on the side of the Soviets.
Had Germany won WWII I dread to think of the state of Europe now.

Well, both systems banned religion, so they would at least eliminate the root of most conflict on the planet.
