Well, I have the same problem with psychologists. I don't like the ideea of them knowing and reading me out more than I allow them to. I feel that all my defense systems fall apart and that they can see right through me... The thing is I can't avoid these guys because of my work, and I want to get over it - they probably mean no harm anyway - but still... I feel so awkward around them!

That's a perfectly normal reaction. Keep in mind that they too, are just people and may feel uncomfortable at times too. Try not to feel the need to be on the "defense" when working with them. I would bet they are not reading you at all. They are probably busy worrying about their work and their own problems. Just be yourself. Everyone has some quirks. Even psychologists. When those thoughts arise, try allowing yourself 3 minutes to think about them and then stop and move on to something more optimistic and productive. Good luck to you and don't worry about it.

Don’t feel awkward, psychologists can't read your mind. I had a roommate at college who became a psychologist and also knew many of them; I think most of them have a lot of personal problems.

This is really interesting. It seems perfectly understandable who wants to be analyzed and that's their job. I once dated a pschologist and I didn't want to go out to one particular party and he suggested I deal with my antisocial tendencies and their origin. It was crazy. (That was social time so I imagine at work they're really in over-drive...) Good Luck

I think the idea of feeling or seeming vulnerable may be more your problem then the psychologists themselves.

Psychologists won't help anyone that doesn't ask for help. Even if they see your problem. They need money to.
