I've heard many late authors were under the influence when they wrote there works. Have you ever tried writing a story under the influence and if you have do you think its helpful or just plain stupid ?

Samuel Taylor Coleridge's life was ruined by his opiate addiction, and it adversely affected his writing, as far as I can tell from biographies. I would in general say that the best thing a writer can do is to have a variety of experiences...but no kind of substance will make your writing better, and an addiction can not only ruin your writing career but also your life. So to answer the main question, no.

From what I've seen of my friends, they only 'think' their junk-induced creations are good until the buzz has worn off. Once they have the junky stuff out of their systems, they're able to see that what they wrote was garbage. I've never done drugs, but I've had similar experiences that were caused by sleep deprivation.

I have written under the influence and once was very shocked when I read what I had written!! I write lots of poems under the influence of speed and find that it helps! (don't tell anyone, though, okay?)

A little weed never hurts to get the juices flowing and also, for me, to get that turn of phrase just h e way I want it. A little wine or beer doesn't hurt either.

For the best writing, though, I must admit, early in the morning, coffee and me and the keyboard seem to do just fine. Well, and maybe just a toke or two, nothing real extreme.

But that's just me....

Kerouac, William S Burroughs, Bob Dylan, Will Self, half of the late 19th century romantic poets were all off it on one thing or another.

Jack Kerouac wrote "On the Road" in one night speeding his nuts off, and even earlier through time people, writers, shamen and creative men and woman off all races ages and nationalities have created masterpieces whilst taking drugs.

But for every one of them, I bet there is a million sad, deluded characters, who wote crap and died an addict.

Marijuana use seems to help with my ideas, but not when it comes to the actual writing process. So, smoke a little, write down your ideas, then process them the next day. Research, research, research. The more you know about your subject, the easier it will be to write about.

Bottle of red wine, after a late night party, a word processor and out it flows. Problem is by next morning it's all turned to crap.

Short answer - no.

I have not tried narcotics and i don't encourage you to do it. Narcotics are not the chemical equivalent of talent.
