A friend told me since the Arab household usually has different families (cousins, brothers, grandparents) living in one roof, then you diminish the chances of infidelity by covering the women up and somehow it became standard practice even after the household consists of one couple.

I know it's religion, but this practice must have its root somewhere. Why? Why not wear pink t-shirts or polo shirts.

Because, according to the Imams, women are the "tools of Satan," leading men astray. Of course they need to be covered from head to toe - anything else might cause a man to sin! CAUSING a man to sin is a much bigger sin than the man actually sinning - which is why when a woman causes a man to sin, you can just stone her to death (or burn her).

women don't wear burkas or scarfves inside the house...just in public. they wear a scarf on the head and a thin cotton usually jacket type garment outside. has to atleast come up to the knees. They wear it to respect themselves. A guy would most likely flirt and disrespect a girl wearing a tight tank top and a mini skirt rather than a girl wear jeans and a long loose top and a head scarf. You save your beauty, not display it for all the pervs who don't deserve it.
and about the polos or pink t shirt. They do have those clothes. I wear a shirt and jeans everyday. You just wear your outer garment over it with a scarf.

It's their religion, it's in the Quran. Some apply the law as it has been writen, others try to read into it.

Few weeks ago UK's Prince Charles went with Camila to visit a mosque; when she was removing her shoes at the door she flashed her ankle and one Muslim rushed to cover her, they take it very seriously. In Australia there's going to be a bikini parade in January and the organizers already got death threats from the local Muslim community. In some countries the women are forced to cover their eyes and fingers too like the Taliban did.

In most countries beside Saudi and Iran where it is the law, women have the choice. They choose to do so for modesty and to not incite men who are visually stimulated. Family traditions also play a part. After their first menstruation they can choose to wear it or not, however some end up wearing it because of either their father or husband. Many reason abound these are just a few

According to the Quran, they're only suppossed to wear a scarf around their head and chest in order to display modesty. Going beyond that is either a matter of local cultural extrapolations of the text or its a personal choice.

bcuz women hav pride to be preserved..in Islam, woman r in a respected position, altho sum ppl always take this in a wrong way..by covering up herself, she is appreciating the position she hold n protect her from seen as an object of pleasure to men..woman who shows herself to get attention is not juz desperate, but also letting herself to be lower than her original position..while talking abt the colour of hijab n weather, actually they can wear any colour, pink or purple, anythg except those striking colours,so black hijab is maybe the culture n traditions

i think its because in their country ( land ) men wanted their women not seen by other men, so they're covered in head to toe. If not, they have a very cruel punishment to look forward to..

partially customs, traditions, morals, religion. i think it's because they think that only the woman's husband should be able to see her...any of her. in some cultures, the elbows are considered to be a sex symbol. it all has to do with cultures and how they were brought up
