"Staring at the world through my rearview Just looking back at the world, from another level yaknowhatImean? Starin... "

I think his lyrics imply that we don't get involved. As the lyrics progress we realize how angry he is that so much violence goes on and people stand on the sidelines watching.... looking out for themselves... escaping while the pain still exists.

I don't want to be a "runner." I've been told I'm "too confrontational" which is such a laugh. I think that society just isn't accustomed to people trying to fix an issue rather than sweeping it under the rug. So I like to think that I will never just stare at the world through my rearview. I want to be standing there pulling cars over to help.

No. I hang my neckties on the rearview mirror and the mirrors fall off.

Metaphorically:

The past was great because I was living in the moment.

If I live in the moment now, with an eye towards the future, the present can be great also.

Life is a carnival.
