if everybody would just stop for a second and read all the comments that respond to the askers own comment, harmless, positive and negativem we'd see what the real problem is. We reinforce the stereotypes that people give to us as races, by acknowledging that the divide between the colour of a person's skin is such a big thing. The quicker we stop looking at Black and white or rich and poor, which ultimately will be difficult then it's the sooner that there won't be any need for distinstions, sterotypes and stigmas to set us apart.
i think that people can't distiniguish culture and personality from colour and race.
why is it so evil for a white man to walk in the hood and speak slang unless he grew up in that hood?
I'll tell you, :because people still want to believe why would he do that..he's a poser.
The come quote says: when go to Rome we do as the Roman's do....and show me who your friend are and I'll tell you who you are.
So then we can assume that the white guy who's friends are all street, and practically lives among his friends is going to be the same way ..only because thats his attitude and mentality.. and should be linked to ..'cuz he think he's black'
And for the ignorant person who tried to relate to the asker but said he's 'educated' and so thats when the slang stops "and he speaks proper'
Give me a break ...people who speak slang can be just as intelligent. how many college kids walking around saying dude...stoked.. and other slang?
ignore the looks are aren't there for the speculators..just do what makes you feel comfortable.

Squadman, I know what you are referring to. The best answer I can give you is this: Black people are afraid to trust white people. It takes some of us a while to warm up to a white person when we meet them. There is also a feeling based upon fear and historical background: Here comes another whitey trying to take over our "thang."
However, one of the things I can assure you, if you go into the hood with a heart of gold and stand your ground, black people will warm up to you. You won't get it so good if it was the other way around.
Black people will accept people into their hearts once they get to know them and yes there might be some inappropriate teasing about your color, but it will never be meant in a way so as to de-humanize you. We still tease my very light-skinned brother about his pale feet and ankles, I don't know why, but we just do it and yet he knows we love him. I get teased for having fred flintstone feet and it's got the same connotation as his pale feet and ankles. We're just weird like that.

I grew up in a predominately black area and I get the looks from black and white but that's alright. When I speak it does have a slang to it but that's where it stops I am educated and it shows when I talk. So they can keep on looking can't judge a book by it cover keep being you. ? for your did you grow up there?

because it looks stupid when anyone tries to act ghetto.
Unfortunately, people see it as a cultural thing. White people aren't generally brought up to speak Ebonics and for some reason its OK for black people to. I have a black friend who used to get picked on for "talking white" when she was growing up so I guess it works both ways.

You are white. Nothing is going to change that. Doesnt matter how you try and talk. Just look at how you are saying things now? Come on, be proud of who you are and stop trying to be something you are not!

Because you're white. Society expects you to be white, act white, and associate with whites. They think you are dropping down in class by associating with ghetto blacks. Wait until you get your black girlfriend to a nice restaurant. That would be looks.

people think it's odd that you are acting like a "homeboy" when you are clearly not....just be whatever you want to be and forget about what others think.......if people stare at you, wave. that will end it right there.....
