I totally agree with you and I totally respect the fact that you emigrated here 11 years ago. This is a wonderful place to live and I am proud to share this country with so many different types of people! I think other countries that do bash America are jealous or ignorant of what we are doing. Yes, every country has its faults, but this truly is a wonderful place to live. We have a wonderful education system, we can walk out of our houses without the fear of a bomb going out, we are free to talk and act and dress in any way we want! Not everyone has that opportunity, so I think that they are either jealous or have a distorted view of America because they do not really know about us.

I am really glad that you have experienced the nice side of the American dream. However there is all to often the bad side of it, which is what creates hatred. Where there is perceived corruption, greed, constant interference in other countries politics, imperialism, incompetence and arrogance. Look at Vietnam, Korea, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iraq all victims or the American Dream for more power, control and greed. Then there is the face off situations with North Korea and Iran, as examples. Followed by misinformation, mismanagement and complete incompetence totally controllable if those in power stopped to think about controlling the lumbering beast of American world power.
America is a huge and diverse country, which makes it incredibly difficult to make general comments of a negative or positive nature. That is why America's world politics play such a large part in world perceptions. It is great that you have some positives to say about your time in the States. However you can not be naive and ignore what is going on around you, as well!

It seems nearly everyone wants to come to America. I think our news media and this last group of politicians were unmercifully saying and acting as though the were at war with each other. They have divided our country.
What has made America so great in the past is that we were united. That spells power. There were so many times when I watched the news and heard how it was being reported and how the politicians make remarks just to fit their agenda, I wondered what must the rest of the world think of us here in America. They would out right lie and some believed them.
Bush is our leader, but if the Republicans and Democrats can't work togather then they make Bush look bad. I have heard Bush being blamed for taking the soft drinks out of the schools by a friend that I thought to be intelligent. He gets blamed for everything.
He has a cabinet he has to rely on and he can't and is not expected to do it all. Other countries hear all the Bush bashing and think that America is falling apart. It's the news media that reports and too many people take it for law.
We have to support who ever is in office. I support Bush and when Clinton was in I supported him. What we need is to enforce the law of treason in many cases. The terrorists say they we take over America be cause we will allow them to do so because of our freedom.
We have great Americans but no one is ever going to hear about them if it's up to the media..
"God Bless America" I need to add, "God Bless the World"

I think that people living in the US have so many freedoms, one being the right to criticize their own government - Other countries rage against the SuperPower - no matter who it is.
Of course, the USA has its faults but it really is the best country in the world to live in (besides Canada of course!) As for racism - it definitely exists in the US and if the country would just stop being so damn politically correct, maybe one day we could have a productive discussion on race issues.

I am from Australia and feel that its the media and TV that gives Americans a bad name. Yes there is crime, drugs and corruption everywhere but we see most of it coming from American TV. An example is the Black man killed by police on his wedding day and I have seen other shows where cameras catch men being bashed by police. I know there are good and bad in all countries but its how much of the bad is shown that gets the impression.

I think its the media. So much information gets out so fast now that other countries see some of the things that are going on the in the US and come to think of us as selfish, egotistical, arrogant, and mean.
We have a sizable Hispanic population in our city now. Most of the people here are very welcoming. Talking to most Hispanics that I know they seem to love it here and I admire Hispanic people for their work values.

I think that all countries have people who are racists. I don't think that any one is more racist than the others, but I think sometimes it seems like U.S. is more so, only because there are so many different races here - therefore, some of each race that live here will be racist. That's just my opinion though.

Decades of political subordination, economic domination, cultural impositions and an unwavering hubris all irk non-Americans.
Look up a little thing called "structural adjustment programs" and see who's behind them and who suffers the consequences.

you have your answer, and it's awful--bush doesn't portray us all that well. frankly, if i was an outsider, i would think americans were all bloodsucking vampires who care about nothing but money and oil. a difference in enviornment and personal influence creates a different mentality, and many people, myself included, don't take the time to correct their somewhat biased views. kinda sucks, doesnt it?
