I am considering changing careers, and I was wondering if a degree from an on-line university such as the University of Phoenix would prove to be useful in a job hunt.

Or would I be wasting my time and money?

I'm a systems analyst in the IT industry. I'm not sure I can say much authoritatively, but I can give you my two sense.

If the degree can get you certified in .NET in highly marketable areas such as C#, VB.NET, XML, ADO.NET, with experience in SQL Server and Reporting Services, you bet. HOWEVER, I can say that I personally was very skeptical of a candidate that I had on my desk about 6 years ago, but I gave them an interview none the less. Certifications are the key; if you can do the work, you can go a long way. If they can certify you in other areas, that have demonstrated value, then the answer can also be yes. Also, an undergrad degree is looked upon highly; some companies only look at someone with an undergrad degree.

If I had a choice between a offline university and an online one, I'd choose the offline; both for the college expierience and the percieved credibility, but the feeling on online universities and credibility is changing in the culture as time goes on in favor of credible online institutions.

I think you would be wasting your time and money. University of Phoenix online is not accredited like state or city universities. Certain universities accept certain regional and national accreditation. If you try to transfer your credits you will have a harder time doing so.

If you put it on your resume it wouldn't be as competitive as someone that graduated from a state college, because when you go to a state university, you have certain interpersonal skills that you learn to deal with other people that the employers look for that you just can't get online. For example: a master's of education online is not the same at a university where you sit in class. Degrees in a university require you to do some field work in a real classroom, and online universities are just that : online. Hope that helps! You want your credits to transfer in the long run or else you will end up taking the same classes over again if you decide to go to another college in the future!

Go to real college, you'll be paid more in the long run. I don't think University of Phoenix has credentials.

a million. convinced, their degrees are valid, and they don't say "on line degree" on them. they're authentic associates, Bachelors or perhaps Masters degrees. 2. i will UNLV (college of Nevada, Las Vegas) and attending college of Phoenix, although i'm no longer in an internet type, i'm attending floor training... I absolutely haven't to any extent further something undesirable to assert in any respect about college of Phoenix. Its curriculum is purely as puzzling, as UNLV's. as a be counted of fact, college of Phoenix makes you imagine slightly extra outdoors the field. 3. Employers DO well known the degree, the protection rigidity absolutely sends a range of of its contributors to take training with the help of faculty of Phoenix. If the protection rigidity is in the back of it, why might want to nobody else be? 4. that is a very permitted company, meaning... credit do move. seem, i don't understand why human beings are consistently putting down UOP or comparing them to Ivy league colleges. they are not Harvard, nor are they attempting to be. they're purely providing puzzling operating adults with the prospect of having an education.
