Jerry Rice is definitely the greatest wide receiver of all time I think because he used lots of skill where a lot of guys are just like sprinters that the quarterback decides to throw the ball to a lot. Jerry Rice is also amazing because he only had 4.6 speed at best(Steve Young was faster). At the end of his career, he was running a 4.8 and had a 1000 yard season with Oakland when they lost in the Snow Bowl Game against the Patriots with the Tuck Rule.
The problem with evaluating WRs is that you can't always put emphasis on their stats, but sometimes you can. I don't think Randy Moss or T.O. is in the top 5. Randy Moss has struggled sometimes against top corners and I think he was just a good athlete whom Mike Tice and Culpepper liked, so they used him a lot. T.O. collapsed a franchise. He was the worse player in the NFL when he was with Philly that season. His agent, what's his name, Rosenhaus, is a sleazy guy who is the epitome of crooked agents and lawyers ruining America.
Chad Johnson is good, but he hasn't been good for very long. I also think T.J. Houshmandzadah[I really can't spell that] is very good.
Here is proof that you can't see everything from the stats. In 2004, Marvin Harrison , Reggie Wayne, and Brandon Stokley all had 1000 yard seasons. The next season, Stokley did not play much at all and had roughly 600 yards receiving. This year, I think he has been hurt. Was Stokley a worse receiver when he had 600 yards? No, he was just as good, but the offense changed which hurt his stats.
Another thing. Harrison, Wayne, Clark, and the rest have Peyton Manning throwing passes to them. That could definitely raise their stats.
But all time, I'd remember the first, Don Hutson. He played back in the 1930s and invented passing routes and ran a 9.5 100 yard dash(back then on cinder track that was really fast) and was one of the first receivers to have roughly 4.3 speed.
But you want a surprise pick. Tim Brown. I always thought he could get it done with different quarterbacks and all.
Remember Steve Largent, Lynn Swan, ...and here is a surprise,
Darren Flutie. He is Doug Flutie's brother. He was one of the most prolific receiver in CFL history, a league that doesn't get the respect it deserves.

1 Jerry Rice- hands down!
2. Don Hutson- you have to take into account the modern day passing numbers are skewed by how much they pass the ball today. The old days, it was a running game!
3. Michael Irvin- Speed, hands, stats, all around good player!
4. Art Monk- Hardest Working, very skilled!
5. TO- I kow you didn't want him on your list, but he is THE BEST athlete the game has ever seen!!
6. Chris Carter- Classy guy, great numbers, great teammate
7. Chad Johnson- Again, the modern day WR is so athletic, so fast, so talented, they would destroy the old guys....hard to compare generation to generation!!!!
8. Tim Brown

If I was playing one game for all the marbles...I would want Jerry Rice and Otis Taylor....
Just because the Chiefs ran the ball 50 times a game and threw it 15...I remember a game against the Raiders, the Chiefs won 24-10 and Len Dawson threw 3 passes...
ESPN ranked the Dawson to Taylor pass in the 1969 AFL Championship game either the #1 or #2 greatest pass play of all time...The Vikings are still looking for their jock straps from Super Bowl IV....Anyone who watched Taylor play or had to try and cover him knows what I mean...6'4" 220lbs could run like the wind, great hands and moves...It's a damn shame he will never be in the HOF where he belongs...

Off the top I think of Jerry Rice, Steve Largent, Chris Carter, Art Monk, and Andre Reed. When he is done, I think Larry Fitzgerald will be right up near the top.

The incomparable Jerry Rice would have to be at the top of the list. He is without peer when it comes to wide recievers. Other names that deserve to be mentioned, but are in no way in the same league are Steve Largent, Michael Irvin, Lance Alworth, James Lofton, and Elroy (Crazylegs) Hirsch
