Crying is a normal human response. I have taught children and patients my whole life that it is ok to cry. And, it is, of course. But, I've privately learned that there is a particular place inside of me that cannot continue to grow unless I turn some of my tears into steel. My father teased me when I told him that. He pretended to be shocked and said, " I do believe me daughter's growing up!" Took awhile. I'm a slow learner.

1. It is more dignified not to cry in front of people.
2. Sometimes people feel if they allow themselves to cry in front of someone it will make that other person feel awkward.
3. Women sometimes may know if they cry they'll mess up their eye make-up and look like heck until they can get to a restroom and fix the make-up (and even then it slides off because the eyes are swollen).
4. Unless the tears are because of a death (in which case anything goes) there's something kind of lacking in pride about just going wild with tears.
5. Sometimes people know if they get going stopping is going to be really hard, and the scene won't be just about a few tears but will be about - like - a psycho breakdown.
6. Big boys and tough ladies don't cry.
7. People may not want to give the person who made someone cry the satisfaction of knowing they did.
8. There is something about being able to decide not to cry until one is in the proper situation (alone) that can add to a sense of being in control of oneself, which always helps feels better than being a giant, out-of-control, blubberer.

hey freind ....
well actually I try to do that most of the time ....
u know why coz this is the life for the strongest and crying might make them feel that u are weak .. So I try the best of me not to cry in public but u have to cry once and awhile and holding it is not good for u or for ur health ... so if i do it so as not to make the one infront think that iam fragile and easy to break so they may get advatage of it and use u in some other way ...
so i believe be confident and strong if u want something and if the right is beside u then ... and u will get and do and achieve all what u want ..
and that will make them feel even though all what is happening to u ... u are the right person in the right places always ....and u will grow bigger and bigger ...so when u get home just cry and get all the negative charges away ... and life would be fine

I hold back tears (at least I try) when I am sad it is because I dont want the attention.. I dont want to make the people around me sad, or I worry that they will not understand.
I also hold back tears and try not to cry because it really does not solve anything.... it may feel good after, releasing something but does not solve amything.

because they don't want people to know they're sad or vulnerable, they may think it's a sign of weakness which they don't wanna other people notice esp. if those were strangers of somekind, tears tell alot about the sensitivity of a person and the need for someone to stand with u and comfort u to ease whatever pain u're feeling,to assure u it will be gone...if i want to cry and show it,it'd be with my sister or best friend around only...

People want to feel like they are on top of things. they know how to handle things and don't need any sympathy. So when someone cries it makes them think and feel that they are weak.
But the truth is crying really helps. Take it from me, I cry five times a day and I'm constantly happy. HAHA just kidding!!!
I hope that helps,
God bless.

I think is mostly because they see it as a sign of weakness.
To your family your weakness may be a show of love and concern, but to outsiders it is a way to gain an edge.
