I'm not really against it, because it's freedom to do it, but I'm hetero and I dont do a hetero pride parade, and none of my gay friends go to those parades or anything, I feel it emphatizes their difference, and me at least dont seem them differently....

For 364 days a year we are hip deep in muck from homophobes, bigots, right wing republicans, evangelicals gone wild, a government that treats us as second class citizens.

So let us have one stinking parade through a gay neighborhood. What does it bother you? How is your way of life threatened by us taking one lousy day to celebrate.

We will take one day a year to celebrate putting up with the non stop BS and the hate, and for one day we can take a moment or two to celebrate that we have not only survived but prospered despite the hate, despite the violence, despite constant attacks.

So you and your self loathing gay pals can sit home that one day and get as huffy as you want, the parade will happen again with out you.

As a heterosexual male myself, I completely support Pride Parades. I see your point about emphasizing differences, and it's valid to a degree, but I think that's sort of taking the Parade out of context. To my understanding, the Parade is more symbolic of overcoming the struggles and misconceptions and bigotry that surrounds homosexuality on a daily basis. We don't have a Hetero Pride Parade because it's unnecessary. We're the majority and we haven't been persecuted and ridiculed since the beginning of time (depending on which cultures we're talking about, since some were definitely more accepting than others). They have, and they've earned a bit of acclaim for simply standing tall and proclaiming "this is who I am, and I'm not willing to back down any longer".

Truthfully, I have an enormous amount of respect for LGBT people, because I understand that it takes a tremendous amount of courage just to be yourself in a society that so flagrantly disapproves of what they were born as. Don't get me wrong, we've certainly come a long way from where we were, but we've still got a long way to go before we reach something remotely resembling equality. If a Pride Parade will help LGBTs become stronger as a collective and will force homophobic zealots to slowly come to terms with the fact that they're here to stay, then I say "go on with the show" ;0)

The gay pride parade is not ridiculous. I have friends that go as well and it's not about making a scene for them - it's about being united. It's not easy to be a minority and it's a comfort for them to be surrounded by people they know will not judge them for holding their partners hand or showing affection in public. Every day is the hetero pride parade. Do you bat an eyelash when you see a hetero couple walking down the street? Maybe they just want to be together so they can be themselves and not worry about what everyone is going to think, do, or say.

A pride parade is part of a festival or ceremony held by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community of a city to commemorate the struggle for LGBT rights and pride.

Most LGBT pride parades take place in the middle of the year, particularly in June, to commemorate the Stonewall riots.

Now personally if people like me and may others world wide choose celebrating the lives , the beatings , being jailed, and many other unspeakable crimes against a human being of those who stood their ground in June 1969 .
Those who started it all ! Those making a difference in not only here in the USA but the World ,so the LGBT Community would be recognized ,counted and proud and someday have the same equal rights given to the heterosexuals at birth.
.
You think that is ridiculous ,you have some nerve !!!!

you could have a hetero pride parade if you wanted to. If i were straight, i'd have a heteo pride parade. Parades are fun. Personally, I do believe that a pride parade does emphasize the differences. On the other hand, something like a GSA or another event that includes straight allies raises tolerance and awareness.

Gay pride parade to some might mean a bunch of men wearing barely anything or drag queens & leather daddy types having a parade to celebrate just to have a party. But gay pride parade was started after Stonewall was raided in NYC. It was when gays stood up & said they weren't going to take it anymore. Here's a link for the history behind it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_pride_parade
Gay people have a parade because of many things.
Every LGBT person goes for their own reason.
This isn't done to show you we're special.
This is to show visibility for our peers LGBT and straight.
It shows young gay youth their not alone.
It shows the world we exist
It shows society that QUEER.GAY,LESBIAN, BISEXUAL,TRANSGENDERED ARE your brothers & sisters, your mothers, your fathers, your friends, your bosses, etc...(you get the picture)
Heterosexuals don't need a parade because their not a minority. They don't need to know there's somone out there like them.
They don't need to prove their sexuality isn't wrong.
Gay pride means something different for everyone. I can only speak for myself. Gay pride to me means it's a day to celibrate who I am & a chance to look back at all the gays before me that gave me the right to have that parade. Gay people need more than parades. They need first class citizenship just like everyone else who's born in this country. That's why we still have a parade...

I can understand why there are pride parades (Puffy summed it up very well), and I did march in Stonewall 25, which happened the year I came out. And, no, I was not half-naked. But, at this point in my life, my homosexuality is just one part of my human existence, and, for me, the notion of gay pride is a bit like being proud that I have two kidneys.

I enjoy Gay Pride Parades! I get to socialize with many people with the same agenda. I meet up with old friends. I make new friends. It is fun. My kids like to go to Pride Rallies with me. They have made friends over the years. They found out they were not the only kids with two mommies!

It's like a St. Patrick's Day parade,
to paraphrase your comments
"I'm not really against it, because it's freedom to do it, but I'm not Irish and I dont do a English parade, and none of my English friends go to those parades or anything, I feel it emphatizes their difference, and me at least dont seem them differently...."

Do you see how opinionated and bigoted you appear to be?

thats because many hetrosexuals in their country are giving them a hard life, thats why they make it a point to create the "hoo hah".

the more minority it is, the more unite it may seems to stay intact. Don't you agree? If only everyone could treat them as the same, there won't be a need to have any pride parade.
