If you are talking about wearing suits or ties it is to put their best foot foward. Also to show respect for the host at an away game.

I'm on my team, and we wear button ups and stuff. It's to make you feel special, giving you pride in the team, and to attract attention so you can get more fans to come and watch your games.

If you mean as in wearing their jersey's or all wearing the same shirt to school that day, it helps you feel like a team (and it lets everyone else know you are on the team, kind of a bragging rights kind of thing)

they do this to make their coaches feel important. Basketball is not important. It is for tall people with long arms. Nothing more, nothing less.
