i know that i work in a pharmacy and xanax, ativan sales increase during the holiday season.
because of personal and religious beliefs i do not celebrate the "holidays" and am relaxed during this time of the year, its generally my vacation time.

I would like to enjoy the holidays with friends and family, but without the gift giving. Let's just get together, have a good dinner, drinks and conversation! Let's not have to worry about what is the perfect gift to give, if they like the gift or if they will even use the gift. We can still sing carols, decorate a tree, bake some cookies and enjoy the company of family and friends - and have a drink or two!! We need to remember what the season really means - and it's not about shopping!

I only do as much as I feel like doing. I enjoy having a string of lights up here and there, it takes away the drabness of snow. As far as the rest of it goes, I say what I think, I don't let other people make me feel obligated, and generally stay as sane as I usually am.
Give yourself a gift this year. Tell the people in your life who are making this a chore for you that you have other plans, and then do something you will enjoy.

The past 3 years we have not celebrated the holidays. Due to lack of finances. But the kids get things from grandma so they dont miss out.

Not really. I don't decorate as it is. And I like to buy stuff for people. So, I celebrate Christmas as I want to anyway.
Well, almost. I look forward to the year when I can stay home. But I think that's coming soon.

Personally, I think it's gotten way out of control. People spend money they don't have and go in dept. Children expect expensive gifts and never are taught the real meaning of Christmas.

Stopped many years ago....at least in the commercial sense. Even my son (22 yrs) asked that I stop giving him Christmas gifts years ago. His idea.
