Yea...1 fourth of the population is retarded--just look at the bell--curve...another fourth is subhuman, and 1 fourth is normal...and then like 1 fourth is 'smart'..this is how we get our average of '100'

I am not putting others down...I am just saying...if this (1) retarded fourth---is true...then should we regard 'mainstream' entertainment as retarded? after all, mainstream entertainment is engineered to appeal to the masses to maximize their profit (movie studios...have to be sure of a guaranteed buck or they go broke)...so if (2) is true...then...

is general media also retarded...and does this mean then that we should recognize the general media as subhuman? since smarter people cannot appreciate it? sometimes looking for something to like, but finding nothing because it can only be appreciated it by the retarded portion of the population?

It might have been only one fourth at one time but ignorance does and is spreading. The media is having to try to fit into everyones level which means the ignorant people need to understand them also.

Hmm. The average person compared to the smartest person in the world is retarded. And mainstream media appeals to the average person. Therefore mainstream media is retarded. Or is it?

I'm going to use the word "retarded" in lieu of "average."

But personally i think youtube is even more retarded than mainstream media (the popular videos, not the site). And youtube videos are chosen by the people. So mainstream media does not perfectlly appeal to the masses, assuming youtube is more popular.

So anyways mainstream media can have different levels in it, the higher levels that the retarded people cannot understand so they ignore and the lower levels appeal to them. Like the simpsons, which has comedy that appeals to adults and children on different levels. mainstream media can be appreciated by the intelligent few and the retarded majority because although they do have to appeal to the masses, it does not mean they cannot appeal to the intelligent too. For example stephen colbert. The retarded people who do not understand his satire will take him for a republican while the more intelligent will see what he really is. This shows that the retarded will think they understand the show perfectly fine and so will the intelligent, and when both think they understand the show it appeals to them.

So to conclude, the different levels in mainstream media can allow it to appeal to everyone, and everyone is more than just the retarded population, so this would be the logical choice to increase their profits as they get more viewers.

Okay, not a terrible analogy, however you're giving a lot of credit to society when saying only 1/4 is simple minded (I cant say retarded since thats not politically correct). However I would say in a generalistic way that half of society has no clue, the other half is split between people on the right path to having a clue and those that actually do have a clue.
