Talk about an incredibly assumptive generalization! EVERY teacher who's not black? I suppose that would be me. I've not once referred a black student to be medicated. Where does this assumption come from? It'd help to know so we could talk about it more.

I believe you are making a rash generalization. I work in a high school and find that to be far from the truth.
Many African-American families are moving into our community from other cities and some are bringing with them behavioral issues, rivalries from their former hometowns.
Our community is undergoing changes and becoming more ethnically diverse. Many kids are not taught proper behavior/manners/respect at home or, if they are, choose not to act appropriately at school.
I work in a classroom that supervises kids who've broken rules, defied authority, or acted out. Unfortunately the majority of those students are African-American. It's sad, but true.

Actually, I don;t think it's that racially motivated. In some school systems, any child who is "lively," "difficult" or otherwise not one of the cooperative herd is labelled as ADHD or with some other diagnosis so that they can be drugged and therefore will be easy to deal with.
It's scary to me, from my own childhood (I'm almost 50!) and what I observed as a worker in the public schools and as a parent, how much the convenience of the adults is a barometer for what is considered "good" behavior. Ethics, morals, and character seem to take second place to what is easy for the adults in charge.
