Who the heck rated Boracay the BEST beach in the world?? They seriously have to get out more. Boracay is a very nice beach, but very commercialized.
The Calamian group of islands in northern Palawan is way nicer than Boracay, but a bit more isolated (read untouched). The best thing to do is skip around to a few resorts here by boat. I suggest Divelink, Sangat, Coral Bay (reserve ahead or they will be closed), and Club paradise. If you do this in a week to 10 days you will have a really nice experience if you like the sea, beaches, diving / snorkeling, etc.
Several flights a day from Manila to Busuanga, superferry goes there on fridays - back on sundays.

I agree with sanmigsean, boracay is way overrated and ugly behind the sandy beach, which also normally has green algae growing in the first several metres of water due to the massive amount of sewage at water level, which has been slowly seeping into the sea for 30 years. The main road, if it is even finished, is a nightmare, there's way too many tricycles and cars as usual in a tourist area, and it's non stop 'buy this, buy that, do this trip' etc etc. on the beach path.
The Calamian area is stunning and unspoilt, with very few tourists there yet and no rip offs. The people involved in tourism there are the locals, and not the shady characters that come in from other areas to scam people and take away the business from the locals after tourism is well established.
Northern Palawan really is the best the Philippines can offer.
All of the islands on the North and West and South of Busuanga look like this one, www.clubparadisepalawan.com but most do not even have people on them. Look at Google Earth for this area and you'll see how many beaches and reefs there are in crystal clear water!

I am going there in two weeks and I did a lot of research. Boracay is a tiny island with like 300 hotels. It was the most beautiful beach about 15 years ago probably. I am going to 2 main vacation spots...I will be staying at Club Paradise in Northern Palawan and then in Camiguin in the Southern Philippines. I can't wait for my big adventure:)

I don't know about the prettiest place, but if you want a great holiday I would recommend Cebu and staying at one of the resorts at the beachfront on Mactan Island. There are lots of great and historic places to visit there too. The crucifix shrine, Lapu-Lapu memorial, the old fort ...

Boracay is getting too industrialized and too trashed up. Try Bohol Philippines where you have clean beaches and you can see the smallest primate in the world, the Tarsier Monkey.

depends on what you want for a holiday...
if you like to swim and enjoy shopping later and evening bar hopping or listening to real band music..choose bohol, philipines and some 400 year old historic sites and some sights like chocolate hills, tarsiers (smallest monkey i the world) you can touch, if they allow you. go sknorkelling and island hopping or whale watching or just stay afloat in a swimming pool.
if you like students motocycling and a freer environment and just laid back and relax with the city and do mountain climbing, cave spelunking, whale watching, drink beer in a "miami beach setting" in their boulevard with acacia trees, and see sugarlandia and hop to some island for sknrleling and go to cebu city overnight and back the next day..try dumaguete city. a friendly city where you can walk freely and mingle with university students and just enjoy.
if you like adventure and courageous enough but not enough funds..try puerto princesa, palawan, philippines where you see many beautiful islands in el nido and othe islands and the st. paul cathedral cave and monkey islands. but you need energy to go to these places and maybe a guide. you need also some anti malaria tab just for prottection or visit the webset. but surely it is one beautiful place on planet earth.
if you want shopping..so manila and stay in one of the bets hotels and enjoy and then go baguio or banawe rice terraces (3 days) or hundred islands, or go mindoro for some resorts. it is good place although meybe crowded but can be fun at night.
more is coming..if you need specifics. bye

Check out siquijor island, i was there, it is beautiful. the people of siquijor are very hospitable and laid back, the island is small and only has 4 little towns on it and numerous smaller villages. If you like beautiful scenery i would suggest going there, and best of all everything is very affordable there too.
