As many have already said
the addition of Sheffield will only shore up thier offense.
They need a lead-off hitter who can get on base, Granderson was ok there---but he strikes out too much for that spot.
As it stands now (before the winter meetings) I think they have a good shot of making the play-offs. Division or wild card. I am sure The Twins will be there as well.
Jemery Bonderman will only get better.
Justin Verlander threw more innings last year then he ever has.
That might hurt him some in '07.
But, hopefully he doesnt fall to that "sophmore jinx"
With Zumaya out of the bullpen, throwing 102 mph, will help.
Brandon Inge needs to buy a hitting bat, not a swinging one.
Mags, Pudge, and Guillen need to stay healthy if they are going to make a run at it.
They pitching looks good, and good pitching will beat good hitting.
Of course, that is assuming they will produce as well as last year. Which is not always the case. Just ask the white sox.
Re-signing Sean Casey was a smart move. His left handed bat will be well suited for that right field fence.
Chris Shelton is a question mark. No one knows for sure where he will end up. If he does well in spring training (which, btw, is only 75 days away for pitchers and catchers to report) he might have a roster spot. Chances are Shelton will end up in Toledo for most of the year to work on his swing.
I look forward to playing The Yankees again, where i know it wont be easy. They will want to get even next year, and it will be fun to watch them play.
Whatever happens, I doubt they finish under .500!
It will be nice to see them contend for several years, even if they dont win the WC or division, because after 12 years in a row of being under .500 Tiger fans deserve a good decent team.
I know I babble a lot about The Tigers (cant help it! I'm a Tiger fan for life!) but I think they will be good, and make the playoffs.

honestly I dont think they will make the playoffs.
They still have a good team, probably on paper better, but I don't think their pitching will be as good.
You have to question the 'year after effect'. Its based on young pitchers dramitically increasing their workload in the majors and the long term effects. Verlander threw over 200innings having never made 140 or something before in his life. Towards the end of the season he struggled.
Also, people are not watching the tigers, they knew the pitching, and their batters weakness. Look what happened to the 2006 White Sox
I think they have to contend with a resurgent White Sox, the Twins will probably still hang around, and the Yankees will be competiting for that wild card (the Red Sox are winning that division)
Sorry, i don't see a playoff series for the Tigers, they will be close, but not close enough.

The WS experience will only help them,it will make them hungerier to get back there. The spotlight from playing on the big stage snuck up on the Tigers and they showed it in there play. there a good ballclub but there are a lot of good clubs in the AL it will be a grind for them, that's why they play 162 games.I,like GP, think that they will be over 500 next year
To make the playoffs, they need to play well early, like last year.I'm looking foward to the coming year.

What I think is that their losing years are all over. Maybe every 5 years from now on, they might have a losing season, but that is it. They have added many superstars, such as Gary Sheffield and their new young pitching staff. They are bound to make the playoffs next year and maybe even win the World Series. This is just a prediction, but I am going to just say this..."Anything is possible, wait for 07"

With the addition of Gary Sheffield they have become a force in the AL. I see them winning the AL Central and then in the playoffs. Gary, although a crybaby whiner, will provide them with a lot of Power.
They are the team to beat this coming year and the Winter Meetings haven't begun yet.

G'day Mike s,
Thank you for your question.
They had a good season on the back of much improved pitching and a new competitive spirit not seen in Detroit for 20 years. Hopefully, Jim Leyland can keep it going and the Tigers can have another winning season.
Regards

i respect the Twins, yet frankly I cant see the different crew besides the Tigers triumphing the time-honored branch. they have an really good manager, an impressive pitching rotation, and an really good captain (Pudge). they ought to have gained the WS very last 12 months, and that i does no longer be shocked to work out them nevertheless taking section in lengthy into October again this 12 months.

They have best team in central, the offense was good but iffy and K'd ALOT but Sheffield will help that, they have an experienced thumper now. Gave up too much to get him, but still. I think theyre best team in Central...they'll win it, make playoffs and tae their chances against everyone else...there is no clearcut favorite in the AL..its wide open again.

With the addition of Gary Sheffield as well as the young pitching staff maturing, they should get even better...
The problem is how much the Twins and the White Sox improve...

I see them getting back to the playoffs but I'm not sure it will be as the division winner. They will have to battle it out with the team that doesn't win the AL East division and an another team in their division.
