I turned the car off for about 45 seconds and no it is running like nothing ever happened. The car did rev very high close to red lining and would not move in any gear.

Sounds like you shelled out the transmission.
You do not say what the car is doing now. does the engine run fine but you can not get it into gear?

If it reved high at freeway speeds then it wasn't driving the wheels, at least not in 4th gear.

You shifted? I'm presuming this is an automatic where you get to state your opinion? Checking the transmission oil level is a good start, but failing that you have a transmission problem which will very likely occur with increasing frequency.

Of course it's aways possible the darned thing just got confused by a software error and you may never see the issue again. It's worth checking whether there are any software updates available for the transmission, some cars have had loads of transmission software issues.
