#1, YUGO
#2 Ford Fiesta

Pintos were actually a very good car up until 1980. My husband used to drive a '72 runabout back and forth from Tucson to the high desert of So. Cal almost every weekend for 9 months and it didn't break down once...not bad for a 20 year old car he got for free! We later placed the engine into a wagon and drove it for several more years. It was still running when we sold it but the new owner totaled it. Pintos had a very easy engine to work on and if given a little attention would last darn near forever (provided you got the gas tank recall repair done and didn't blow it up)

In the 1970s and up to the mid 1980s, import cars were way more reliable than American cars. The cars of the period from the US companies were just junk. It was not until the ate 80s that the American car companies got the idea about quality and by 2000 they had pretty well caught up. Bad reputation are hard to live down.

Fords, of course, and some honda accords were known to be very unreliable. also, the corvair wasn't unreliable as someone said, it was only unsafe. although you might have had one yourself that had some problems, it doesn't accurately represent the whole line of corvairs. Chevrolets, through time, have had some unreliable vehicles, but on the whole, they have proven to be very reliable.
