It's kind of difficult to avoid them if they come over without notice. But if they called my house, I would check the Caller ID before answering it. If I didn't want to talk to them, I don't answer it.

neither I answer the phone and tell the caller that I do not feel like talking to them at that moment.
I am neither polite or rude, I just answer the door and let them know that I am not accepting company at that moment

if its a call on my phone, i can just avoid it, but for people who comes over my place, i am usually polite...

this is a hard one but i would generally be nice to them at stage one but then ignore/reject any future offers. the theory behind this is that they could have hot friends so you dont want to destroy this connection, but keep it fed in someway, theres nothing wrong with a connection when u need it
