the first film was rather fun - and yes we took our son who was about 3 or 4 years old at the time to go and see it
i did get a later book and was horrified at what gore i found within - and the fact that it is pedaled at local schools as 'curriculum' for children as young as 7.
i have let my sons school know that i don't want him involved in anything to do with harry potter as a result as it is thinly disguised occultic activity going on
fair enough if that is what you knowingly choose - but most kids don't - so we need to get the word out there

Depressing? It is, but at the same time the books and the movies weren't meant to remain to be funny. The Harry Potter series still has plenty of adventure, but you have to think about this: The characters are getting older, and that often means they're facing darker situations. Also, keep in kind that what you may see as dark/depressing may not be for someone else who follows the books/movies.

I don't think Harry Potter has ever been an adventure/funny book, I remember I couldn't read the ending of the first book for the longest time because of the forest scene, and even scenes in the second book are very dark and depressing.

Harry Potter has always had the adventurerthing, but it was supposed to be a book of heroism and perserverence. I believe that the author was trying to also include the mystery side. As all stories do, there is the compelling feeling of utter remorse, death and evil. The fact that she can write it and write it well is amazing. The movies represent the book. Im sorry to tell you that happy, slice of life stories are few and far between. If you want those stories then thats another question. Personally I think it is a great book. Regardless of its theme

I don't find book 1 funny at all. However, since book 1 J.K Rowling said they were going to get darker as they progressed. I love the books and I sure wish I could tell you I'm a teenager, but no tomorrow is my 34th birthday!

They are definitely darker-I think they've just moved from kiddie books to more grown-up books.
