I'm afraid that if my girlfriend moves in, even for a short time that she could get half of everything. I don't know the law. I heard if her name is on any utilities I could get hit with common law.

The Nevada Common Law is quite large (as is any state's!). I am guessing that you are actually concerned with a phenomenon called "Common Law Marriage". The best way to avoid this is to see a lawyer BEFORE she moves in. Draft an agreement declaring both of your intentions, etc.

Common law is basically past court decision that because of the doctrine of starrier decisis have to be followed in future cases. Researching common law is tricky because there is so much of it; this type of research is why people go to law school. If you are really concerned you really need to talk an attorney.
