what is the factory recomended way of shutting down the Xbox 360 Console?

through the console itself, or through the circular X on the controler which then gives the on screen option of shutting down.

I have a launch 360 and not have had any problems.... I normally just shut the console down through the guide button. Hold it and then select shut down console. System is a year old and still works like butter.

Yes hold down the circle x button and press shut off console ur 360 will last longer.

I don't think it makes a difference because whether you turn off the console itself or use the button on the controller, it turns off right away. This isn't like the PS3 or PS2 where it's recommend that you hit the power button until it turns red and then turn off the switch in the back.
