even though you're not working i suggest you take 4 classes per semester, since you are just starting college. it takes some time to adjust to all the freedom that you have in college.

It really depends. I was an EE major (now I'm CS, and I'm considering physics), and took 19 credit hours my first semester. They were almost all gen-ed classes, and I did pretty well. The next semester I took 17 credit hours, and did much, much worse because the classes were just plain harder. I'm now taking 12 credit hours and still feel pretty overwhelmed (finals next week). However my girlfriend, a BioChem major, takes more classes, studies less, and gets better grades.
So it really depends on the individual. For your first semester, you may want to take it easy, just keep in mind having an 'easy' schedule has just as much to do with what classes you take as how many.

3 to 4 max. But it depends of the classes. You may start with Calculs, physics, and english. That will be enough to keep you busy. The school shoudl have an engineering program set up. Follow that and you should be ok. Remember this is not high school and is one of the very difficult programs of study. Thus work hard and forget the parties till the breaks.

I'd say take 15 to 16 hours (equals about 5 classes). I took 12 my first semester which is four classes and things got a little boring. If you don't take enough you'll be sitting in your dorm room (if you're on campus) waiting for all of your friends to get out of class. On the other hand, don't over do yourself if you're just starting out. It all depends on what you think you can handle.

I would say that you say you should take somewhere between 16-18 credits that way you will be able to finish school faster. But it does depend what you are going for and how hard it is.

I'm pulling 16 with a part time job, but it really depends on you. If you're not sure start light. If you can handle it then step it up a notch. Good luck to you!

Depends upon how many units you can handle; the larger amount of units, generally the harder the class.

I took over full time in grad school, had a full time job and a part time job. I think if you arent working you can handle at least full time if not over.
Enjoy not working--you're lucky!
