I have never been very fond of fragrances but my friend wasn't either and a salesclerk helped her pick one out and now she loves it but she will only wear that scent. I would like to find a fragrance that suits me. Can somebody suggest one or ways to find out which one would suit me best?

Here are 10 tips for the fragrance lover, to make sure you can make the most out of your perfume.

1. About testing perfumes: Spray the fragrance onto the tester paper and place it 1 foot away from yourself, and then fan it gently.

2. About testing perfumes: Spray the fragrance up into the air above you, and when the mist falls, inhale deeply and feel the first feeling this fragrance gives you.

3. About testing perfumes: Spray the fragrance on your wrists, and see how when in contact with your pulse and body warmth, the perfume changes. See how long-lasting and stable the fragrance is.

4. About testing perfumes: Spray the fragrance onto a handkerchief to test how it would smell like on fabric.

5. Don't apply perfume behind your ears, as it will be easy for it to mix with the secretions of your skin and form a strange smell.

6. Don't apply perfume between your breasts, as this will make it easy to form bumps and pimples.

7. Don't apply perfume in your arm pits, because when this perfume without the effect of deodorants and anti-perspirants, it will also form a strange smell when in contact with perspiration.

8. During daytime, apply perfume on your wrists, joints on your legs and above your tummy.

9. At night, apply perfume on the back of your neck.

(The above two tips are to avoid the reaction between UV rays and perfume forming allergies or damaging the skin.)

10. Don't spray fragrances onto light-coloured clothing, as this will yellow the fabric.

The only way to tell is to go to the department store and try them on. The most you should try on at one time would be two; one on each wrist. This way you won't get confused. You have to wear them at least twenty minutes to be able to get the "true" scent. What smells good on someone else may not smell good on you. It's all about body chemistry. If you want to try others on the same day, make sure to clean your wrists in between. Also, if you are sampling different scents, your nose will start to get confused. Ask the sales clerk to let you sniff some coffee beans. This will cleanse your scent palate. Good luck. I love fragrances and sampling them. Finding the right one(s) for you will be a joy.

Go to a department store and give the person working in perfumes an idea of what you're looking for. I bought my first fragrance for my grade 12 grad. I just told them that's what I wanted it for, but that I also wanted something that I could wear on a day to day basis. The person will most likely be able to help you, and pick one for you depending on your need and age. Bring your mom or a friend or someone to give you an extra opinion, while your testing the fragrances out!

It depends. Do you like the scent of certain flowers? You can find flowery scents or fragrance that smells like one flower like a rose or lilacs. Tell the salesperson you want something light and flowery. If that doesn't work for you, you need to go to a place where you can sample lots of different kinds of scents. A cosmetic store can let you try several to see what you like.
I get lots of compliments when I wear Romance by Ralph Lauren.

Oh yes! I am a perfume fanatic. You can go to the department stores and get a spray of perfume to sniff and also ask for samples.

The same perfume can smell entirely different on two different people because your skin's chemistry reacts with the perfume

You can as well order small samples of perfumes (called decants) you think you might like on Ebay or other perfumer lover's sites. Here are some links to perfume chat boards and perfumer lovers sites

my favorite is the BE DELICIOUS by DKNY
or the RALPH LAUREN HOT
those are both really good..
but if you wanna test out some more, then go to the mall and go to one of the department store like Hechts or Macy's...then go to the perfume section and take some testers...walk around and do some more shopping...but continue to smell the perfumes...c which one u like the most and which ones give u a headache.
