Shoushan stone is quarried from Shoushan, a village in the mountains 40 kilometers north of Fuse city proper. Formed in the intervals of volcanic eruptions tens of millions of years ago. Shoushan stone is made up of lava and the minerals around it, which were gradually recongealod into a colored crystalline ore. Comparing favorably with jade, it far exceeds fade in color. Shoushan stone may be rated as the best of all colored stones in China.
As far back as the southern Dynasties 1500 years ago, Shoushan stone began to be carved in Fuzhou. The long history of stone carving has seen a galaxy of Famous carvers and fine carvings. Most of these masterpieces were either collected into the palace as imperial treasures or selected by local officials as tribute to pay to the court. First-class carvers were often called into the court to carve Shoushan. Some of these stone carvings are still kept in the Imperial Palace in Beijing

Tianhuang stone, with the title of king of stones is treasure of Shoushan stone department. Look at it carefully, you can find its beautiful color with close texture. Since the Ming and Qing dynasty, Tianhuang stone has been also called "the king of the stamp stones". Millions of years later, it is still the excellent collection among the fans, which Chinese often said,"it is easy to get the gold,but it is really difficult for the Tianhuang. There are several sorts of the more costful Tianhuang stones, including the Tianhuang jellied stone which is the top grade with whole clear and transparence, like the frozen honey, extremely lenitive; the other is the silver wrapping the gold,like the fresh egg with wipped-off putamina with the outward tiny skin, bright and smooth.
Tianbai stone, pure and noble with the striking red inside is produced from Shangban area, and now becomes extinct. Gold wrapping silver, like a mess of suet with a layer fresh yellow skin, which becomes the bright contrast between the skin and pulp is fully the top grade in the Tianbai stones; yellow color of the chicken grease,with the close and stable texture which looks greasy and wet and a layer skin like the chicken grease on the surface is produced neighboring of the Shangban and Zhongban area; yellow color of the orange pericarp, with the showy texture which the reddish yellow and purity material is produced from Zhongban area; Black skin Tian, another name is "crow skin" with the texture of sweet-scented osmanthus,and the skin color as black as carbon, which is used to carve the works, also the ourwarding black and the inside yellow becomes the contrast.
Shankeng stone, the staple of the Shoushan stones is the main source of the seal and stone-carved crafts in the medium and even top grade.
Kengtou hill which is in the south-east area of Shoushan village is the cradle of Shoushan river. Shuikeng stone is exactly produced from here, where you can see the Kengtou hole and crystal hole by the river and mountain. Since the hole is very close the brook where the stones are being dipped in,so we call Shuikeng stone "hole stone in the brook". Even though,the resources of Shuikeng stones are extremely limited,each of the stone is unique and collective. Most of the fine Shuikeng stones in the market now are probably the antiques around thousands of years old, that's the name "rare Shuikeng stone jelly of one hundred year" comes. Shuikeng stone is the representative of all jellied Shoushan stones with the colors of yellow, white, grey and blue is mainly included crystal jelly,agate jelly, peach blossom,leopard leather jelly, yellow jelly, sky blue jelly, encephalon jelly, horn jelly,eel jelly, circle jelly, Kengtou jelly, hole etc.

Seals or 'Chops' have been used throughout the Asian countries as a kind of "RubberStamp". The are used as a means of creating a "seal" or identifier of an individual or business. They are used on documents, letters, paintings, and poems. Since they are used as a form of identification they are never alike and are guarded very closely.
